Cancellations, refunds and course credit
Each course has its own cancellation policy. It is on the course page, in the registration form, in your receipt, and in your account beside the course under Cancellation and refunds.
What comes back
A policy gives, depending on when you withdraw, some of your money back, some course credit, or both. A typical ORI policy for a weekly course is:
| If you withdraw | You receive |
|---|---|
| Before the 1st session | A full refund |
| Before the 2nd session | 75% of tuition paid, as course credit |
| Before the day of the 3rd session | 50% of tuition paid, as course credit |
| From the day of the 3rd session | No refund, but 50% of tuition paid as course credit |
Always check your own course's policy, which may differ.
Three things apply to every course:
- Percentages are of the tuition you have actually paid. On a payment plan, that is what you have paid so far.
- The registration fee is not refunded.
- The CE fee is refunded in full, as money, whatever the policy gives for tuition, unless your certificate with CE credits has already been issued. If a discount code took something off your CE fee, what comes back is what you paid for CE. You can also remove CE on its own and keep your place: see CE credits.
How to withdraw
- Open My courses.
- Beside the course, open Cancellation and refunds. It shows what withdrawing today would give you.
- Choose Withdraw from this course, check the amounts, say why if you like, and confirm.
What you receive is fixed the moment you ask, not when we reply. We confirm by email. Until then your registration stands, and you can take the request back from the same page.
Once confirmed, your registration ends: any remaining payments are cancelled and you stop receiving course emails.
Money back
A refund goes back to the card or PayPal account you paid with and can take a few days to appear. If you paid by check, we send it back to you ourselves. A card refund usually appears within 5 to 10 days. Every refund, and any course credit, is listed on your Payments page.
Course credit
Course credit is money kept for you instead of paid back.
- It is kept in your account and shown, with its history, on your Payments page.
- It does not expire.
- It pays for any later ORI course or event: register as usual, and at checkout press Use my credit. It covers the whole price or part of it, and you pay the rest as usual.
If you have not paid yet
If you registered but have not paid and no longer wish to attend, there is nothing to do: the registration simply lapses. If you are waiting on a scholarship decision and have changed your mind, write to us at admin@orinyc.org.
