Accessibility Statement
Effective
Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (Training Foundation) ("ORI", "we") wants everyone who is interested in our courses to be able to find them, register, pay, take part and receive their certificate, whatever their abilities and whatever technology they use. This statement covers this website, the emails we send, and the courses we run through it.
Our standard
We design and build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. In practice this means we aim for:
- Keyboard access: every link, button, form and menu can be reached and used without a mouse, and you can always see where you are on the page.
- Screen readers: pages are built with proper headings, labels and landmarks, images carry text descriptions, and form errors are announced and explained in words, not by colour alone.
- Readable text: text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content, and colours meet the contrast levels the guidelines ask for.
- Your settings respected: the site follows your device's text size, light or dark appearance and reduced motion settings.
- Plain language: instructions, prices, deadlines and policies are written to be understood the first time.
- Time: nothing on the site times out while you are filling it in without warning you, and the questions we send during and after a course have no time limit.
During a course
Live sessions take place online. Joining details are emailed before the course starts, and most sessions are recorded and sent to everyone registered, so you can watch again at your own pace, pause, and turn on captions where the recording has them. If you need something for a live session, such as a sign language interpreter, live captions, materials in advance, or a larger print or electronic copy of handouts, please ask us (see below).
Known limitations
We know some parts do not yet meet our standard, and we are working on them:
- Captions on recordings: recordings are hosted on Vimeo or YouTube. Captions may be generated automatically, which can contain mistakes, and some older recordings have none. We can arrange a transcript or corrected captions on request.
- Course materials from instructors: readings and slides are prepared by each course's instructor and may include scanned documents that a screen reader cannot read. Ask us and we will provide an accessible version where we can.
- Services run by others: payment pages from Stripe and PayPal, and the video conferencing and video players we use, are run by those companies. We choose providers who publish their own accessibility commitments, but we cannot fix their pages ourselves.
Asking for an accommodation
If a disability or health condition makes any part of registering for or taking a course harder, tell us what would help and we will work with you to arrange it. Write to admin@orinyc.org with the name of the course and what you need. Please ask as early as you can, ideally two weeks before the course starts, so there is time to arrange it; we will still do what we can if you ask later.
You do not need to tell us about a diagnosis, only what would help. What you tell us is shared only with the people who need to know to arrange the accommodation, such as the course's instructor. There is no charge for an accommodation.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us, even if you found a way round it. You can write to admin@orinyc.org or, if you have an account, report a problem from the Help section of your account. Say which page you were on, what you were trying to do and, if you are happy to, which browser and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within two business days, and to fix the problem or offer another way to do the same thing.
If you need this statement or any other page in another format, write to us and we will provide it.
How we check
We review new pages against the guidelines as they are built, test with a keyboard and with the screen readers built into common computers and phones, and take every report we receive as a reason to check again. This statement was last reviewed on the date shown at the top of the page, and we will update it as things change.
