CE credits

Many ORI courses are approved for continuing education (CE) credits by one or more bodies, such as an APA-approved sponsor, New York State boards or NAAP. A course that carries CE says CE credits on its card in the catalog. On the course page, the dates section sums it up in one line (for example "Continuing Education: 14.5 CE hours for APA, NYS Psychologists, NYS Social Workers"), and the Continuing education section lists each body with its hours and its accreditation statement. Nothing about CE is shown until a course is approved.

Adding CE when you register

Tick the CE option in the form and answer the few questions a CE certificate needs: choose your profession and the state where you are licensed, then give your license number. As soon as both are chosen, the form tells you what you get, for example "15 CE hours from Amedco", and the CE fee is added to your total.

Each body approves the course for some professions in some states. If none covers yours, the form says No CE for your profession and state: CE is not added, you are not charged for it, and you can still register. If you think that is wrong, write to us: CE can be added after review, and we then email you a link to add it. CE is issued only for licenses in the US. If your profession is not on the list, register without CE, and write to us if you need it.

Who cannot claim CE

  • Student registrations: if you register at a student rate, CE credits are not available, and the option disappears from the form.
  • Full scholarships: a 100% scholarship does not include CE. With a 50% scholarship you can ask for CE; its fee is added, in full, to the half you pay. Students cannot claim CE, on a scholarship or not.

Adding CE after registering

Changed your mind? You can add CE credits until the approving bodies stop taking requests, usually 90 days after the course ends:

  1. Open your Payments page, or the link in your receipt email.
  2. Beside the registration, choose Add CE credits.
  3. Answer the CE questions and pay the CE fee. If none of the course's bodies covers your license, it says so; write to us and we will review it.

It is added to your original registration, and you receive a receipt for it.

Removing CE

Decided you do not need CE after all? Remove it yourself, and the CE fee comes back:

  1. Open your Payments page (your My courses page links to it too).
  2. Beside the registration, choose Remove CE credits, and confirm.

What you paid for CE goes back (if a discount code took something off the CE fee, that part stays off), the way you paid it: to your card (it usually shows within 5 to 10 days) or to your PayPal account. If you paid by check, it is added to your course credit, which pays for any later ORI course or event. Everything else about your registration stays the same, and you can add CE again later while the course allows it. CE can be removed until your certificate with CE credits has been issued.

The CE evaluation

CE providers ask everyone claiming credits to evaluate the program. We email you the CE evaluation when it opens, usually on the last day of the course; it is also under CE evaluations on the course's card in My courses. Please answer it within 7 days: the email gives the date, and if you have not answered, a reminder comes 2 days before it. Answers are still accepted after the date. Your answers go to the provider, and some providers need them before your CE certificate.

You can read and Change my answers at any time after submitting, from the email or your account. If a course carries credits from more than one provider, each may have its own evaluation; you are sent only the one for the body you claim through.

Your CE certificate

Once you have completed the course, we email you how to claim your CE certificate from the body for your license: the link, your hours and the steps. If you need another body's certificate (you hold two licenses, say), write to us and we can send you its instructions instead. See Finishing a course.
