Terms of Use

Effective

Welcome to Training Hub at ORI, the course site of Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (Training Foundation) ("ORI", "we", "us"). These terms apply when you visit this site, sign in, register for a course or give one as a gift. By doing any of these you agree to them, so please read them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Who can use the site

You must be at least 18 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to register for a course. Some courses and CE credits are open only to people with particular qualifications or licenses; the course page says so, and by registering you confirm that what you tell us about yourself is true.

Your account

Your account is your email address: you sign in with a link or code we send to it, and there is no password. You are responsible for keeping your email account secure, since it signs you in here, and for what happens in your account. Tell us at once at admin@orinyc.org if you think someone else has used it. Keep your name and email address up to date, because we use them for your receipts, joining details and certificates. See Your account.

Registering and paying

  • The price you pay is the one shown on the registration form when you register. Prices that depend on the date, such as early bird prices, apply until the deadline shown, in the course's own time zone.
  • Payment is taken by card or PayPal through Stripe and PayPal, by check where offered, or in installments where a payment plan is offered. See Paying.
  • If you choose a payment plan, you agree to pay each installment by its due date. If an installment is not paid, we may pause your access to the course until it is.
  • If you choose automatic payments when paying by card, you allow us to charge that card for each later installment on its due date, for the amounts and dates shown when you agreed. We email you before each charge. You can turn automatic payments off, or use a different card, at any time on your Payments page; a charge already made is not undone by turning them off.
  • PayPal Pay Later (paying PayPal in installments) is an agreement between you and PayPal. We are paid in full for that payment, and PayPal's terms apply to your installments with them.
  • A place paid by check is held for the number of days shown when you choose it. See Paying by check.
  • Discount codes and scholarships are subject to the conditions stated when they are offered, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • A course given as a gift is paid in full and belongs to the recipient once they claim it.

Cancellations, refunds and course credit

Each course shows its own cancellation policy just above the registration button, and that policy applies to your registration. Whatever the policy, the registration fee is not refunded, and the CE fee is refunded in full unless your certificate with CE credits has been issued; you can also remove CE on its own from your account and have the CE fee refunded. How to withdraw, and when you receive money back or course credit, is explained in Cancellations, refunds and course credit.

If we cancel a course, you may choose a full refund or course credit. If we have to change the date, time, format or instructor of a course, we will tell you as soon as we can, and if the change does not suit you, you may withdraw under the course's cancellation policy.

Taking part in a course

  • Joining details for live sessions are personal to you, and your personal Zoom link is how your attendance is recorded. Please do not share them or let others join in your place.
  • Be respectful to instructors and other participants. Our Non-discrimination Policy applies to everyone taking part.
  • Clinical confidentiality: our courses often discuss clinical work. Never share information that could identify a patient or client, in a session, in the chat, or in answers to notes, feedback and evaluations. Disguise any case material you present, as your professional ethics and the law require.
  • Our courses are education. They are not therapy, clinical supervision or treatment, and taking part does not create a therapeutic relationship with an instructor or with ORI.

Recordings

Most live sessions are recorded, and the course page says so. By taking part in a recorded session you agree that your name, image, voice and anything you type in the chat may appear in the recording. If you would rather not appear, keep your camera and microphone off.

Recordings are sent to everyone registered for the course, for their own study, except those on a full scholarship, which does not include them. Your recording links are personal to you. Do not download, copy, share, sell or post recordings or course materials anywhere, and do not record sessions yourself. See Recordings of sessions.

CE credits and certificates

  • Continuing education credits are awarded by the providers named on the course page, under their own rules. To receive credits you must attend as they require and complete the CE evaluation. See CE credits.
  • It is your responsibility to check that a course's credits are accepted by your licensing board.
  • A certificate of completion records that you completed the course. It is issued to those who ask for one, when registering or later in My courses. It is not a license, and completing a course does not by itself qualify you to practise.
  • Certificates can be checked by anyone with the code printed on them, at Check a certificate.

Course content and our materials

The courses, recordings, handouts, text, images and design of this site belong to ORI, to our instructors, or to others who have given us permission to use them. You may use them for your own study while you are registered. You may not copy, share, sell or publish them, or use them to teach or train others, without written permission.

What you send us

Your answers to notes, feedback and evaluations, and anything else you send us, remain yours. You allow us to use them to run and improve our courses, and to share anonymous comments or summaries, for example in reports to CE providers. We will not publish anything that identifies you without asking you first.

Things you must not do

Do not use the site to break the law or anyone's rights; to send spam or anything harmful; to harass anyone; to try to reach parts of the site or other people's information you are not meant to; to disrupt the site; or to collect information from it with automated programs. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and refund any course you have not yet started, less any costs the course's cancellation policy allows.

Other websites and services

The site links to and uses services run by others, such as payment providers, video conferencing and video hosting. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.

Changes to the site and these terms

We may change the site, and these terms, from time to time. When we change these terms, we update the date at the top of the page. Changes do not affect a course you have already registered for, unless the law requires it or you agree.

Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep the site available and the courses as described, but the site is provided as it is, and we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for indirect losses, or for losses caused by events outside our control, and our total responsibility to you for any course is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that the law does not allow to be limited.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States. Any dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts located in New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there. Before going to court, please write to us at admin@orinyc.org: most problems can be solved quickly by talking.

General

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still do so later. These terms, the course's cancellation policy and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
