Registering for a course
Every course has its own page with a purple Register section near the bottom. The form there is in short numbered steps: your details, your registration, options such as CE, and review and pay. A step's number turns into a green check once it is filled in. Press the green Register and pay button and pay on the next page.
If something is missing when you press the button, every field that needs attention is outlined in red with a note saying what to fix, and the page takes you to the first. Choosing "Other" for a required question, such as your profession, asks you to say what it is.
While an early price lasts, the top of the section shows it with the date it ends and the days left. On a phone, a bar with the price and a Register button follows you down the page until you reach the form.
ORI runs courses, seminars, webinars, conferences and workshops. Each page says at the top which one it is, and the emails about it use the same word ("your webinar"). This help centre says "course" for all of them.
Your email address
We send a six-digit code to the address you enter, and you type it into the form. This makes sure a typo does not send your receipt, your joining details and your certificate to someone else.
Send the form from the same browser you typed the code into. If you switch to another device or browser part way through, ask for a new code there; the confirmation belongs to the browser that entered it, so nobody else can register under your address.
A code stops working after five wrong tries: ask for a new one. An address can take at most 20 wrong codes a day; after that, try again tomorrow or write to us at admin@orinyc.org. The form never says whether an address already has an account with us: everyone registers the same way.
Because the code proves the address is yours, registering also signs you in on that browser, and the You're registered page has Open My courses. If you are not signed in as the person registered (when you register a colleague, for example), it offers Email me a sign-in link instead, sent to the address used on the form. Your receipt email says the same: the course, its dates, its Zoom link and your receipts are all in My courses, and signing in needs no password. There is no account to set up. Next time, sign in with the same email address.
Staff accounts are the one exception: registering never signs anyone in to a staff account, so staff sign in on the sign-in page as usual.
If the form finds something to correct when you send it, everything you typed stays in place: fix what is marked and send it again.
Prices
When a course has early bird, regular and at-the-door prices, the form shows all of them in one table before you choose, with the dates each price applies. The column marked Now is what you pay today. A deadline with a time, such as 6 PM, means that time in the course's own time zone (New York time for most ORI courses).
Below the table are the charges that come on top:
- Registration fee: many courses charge a $25 registration fee, waived for ORI candidates in training. Tick "I am an ORI candidate in training" if that is you.
- CE credits: licensed professionals can add continuing education credits. See CE credits.
The total, in the last step, appears once you choose your registration and updates as you answer.
Recordings
When a course is recorded, the form says so at the top: the recording goes to everyone registered, except those on a full scholarship. If you cannot attend live but would like the recording, register as usual. See Recordings of sessions for how you receive them.
A certificate of completion
When a course gives certificates of completion, the form asks whether you would like one: tick I would like a certificate of completion. It is not ticked unless you tick it, and only those who ask receive one. You can change your mind later in My courses. This is our own certificate that you completed the course; it is not a CE certificate, which comes from the CE provider. See Certificates of completion.
Before you press the button
The course's cancellation policy is shown just above the button. It is worth a look: see Cancellations, refunds and course credit.
Other ways to register
- As a gift: tick "Send this course as a gift" and enter the recipient's name and email. They receive a link to claim it, straight away or on a date you choose, and you can preview that email before you pay. A gift is paid in full, by card or PayPal, so the recipient receives a place that is already paid for: payment plans and checks are not available for gifts.
- With a discount code: enter it under Discount code and press Apply. The form shows what the code takes off. Some codes do not reduce the CE fee or the registration fee; if so, the form says so right under the code, and those fees are charged in full.
- With a scholarship: choose the scholarship option. See Scholarships.
Registering again
If you are signed in, the form offers to fill in your details from your last registration.
If you reload the page, or it says it has been updated
What you type into the form is kept in this browser tab until you register, so reloading the page does not lose it (uploaded files are the exception: choose them again). Now and then the site is updated while a page is open; if a page then says This page has been updated, press Reload the page and carry on where you were. Closing the tab clears what was kept.
